by now, so much had changed in this new realm that it was getting hard for the 3 websignians to keep up. some of what they created got lost and misplaced. the websignians found it difficult to describe exactly where they had left their last creation when people inquired.

the websignians were building really important things now: stores, digital magazines, even social networks and the world needed to know. scratching their heads in frustration they tried to find a store they had recently built. it was getting dark soon, they would have to wait until morning.

all of a sudden there was the sound of voices, a crowd of voices. laughter, questions, chatter, the websignians didn’t know what to think. they saw a glow on the horizon, then heard a loud high-pitched voice: “this way! over here! let’s try and keep some order here people! this is the place i told you about.” confused, the websignians watched what seemed like thousands of people approaching, all being led by a spritely little figure with a big voice. “who wanted to see that drupal website sample?! it’s over there on the right!” she pointed in the direction of the websignians, and now they were really concerned. what did these people want? who was the loudmouth leader? whatever it was, the people were approaching, and approaching fast. she quipped “they have  samples of blogs and stores right there!” she waived in the direction of the designer, who now looked even more puzzled, since that was exactly what he and the builder were searching for!

“how’d she know where we left the…?” the designer whispered to the other two. as people started to swarm the sites they had created. “i’m a marketer! so stop whispering, i’m always listening and i can hear you just fine!” she was twangy and deliberate. “these people are customers with needs, and that’s what I do. i bring customers what they search for, even when they don’t know exactly what they want. sometimes I even have to take them on a tour because they’re looking for a lot of stuff…you guys make some cool stuff and that’s the only reason i brought these folks here. a lot of what these people seek is right here. you really should sort out that pile,” her sarcasm was just loud as her voice. “what do you think we’ve been doing all day?” responded the designer.

the marketer sassed,“i’m not sure if that’s what that little big dude over there is doing, but I have a friend that can help.” she whistled, and out of the bustling crowd emerged another small figure with a mobile device in one hand, and a tool belt on her waist. “meet my bff, she’s a manager.” the manager walked by them shyly introducing herself, and wandered into the center of the thick pile of designs and code, immediately clearing a path to the center. she pushed over a large enterprise platform that almost squashed the builder. he grumbled, and moved to the side to watch her work her magic.

they watched her work in amazement, and as she effortlessly created order out of the chaos, organizing code and images, and even creating space for future work to exist. while they watched, the original websignian stepped back from the group, and started to reflect on how this whole journey began. all the heroes he met along the way shared their special abilities in order to make the interwebs a more beautiful and functional place. he couldn’t see it, but he sensed that all along there was a plan that made this happen. a plan that need them, as much as they needed it…
